Wonderful story by a talented author
There is a flawed hero. He is deaf in one ear and wears an aid in the other. He is perfect in every way!!! I really enjoyed this story. It was a little depressing at first with everything that can go wrong going wrong but then he steps in to save the day. He has loved her always. The heroine married the wrong brother!! In a drunken stupor, he falls off a roof, breaks his leg but dies of a heart attack on the way to the hospital. This guy had NO redeeming qualities except he fathers a set of twin boys! The story had a few twists. Always some secrets that seem to tear the family apart. His final secret was one that turned into a very positive thing. Thank goodness for his mother's affair!!
My only negative is that the cousin didn't get the devil beat out of him. Yes, there is a time when violence is necessary! But there is a HEA. I really liked the story and I would recommend it. It was a good, easy read.
If you're looking for a sweet story with a little heat and a lot of romance, this is it. The author is able to portray a full character arc in a novella. The narrative is tight and engaging. The dialogue is witty and specific for each character. You can't help but root for the heroine as she struggles to maintain her independence and accept some badly needed help for her and her sons. Tension builds between the main characters and the reader is pulled along. A great way to spend an evening or afternoon at the pool.
Anything You Ask was a wonderful book about a couple who had to be taken from each other then brought back together because of hard situations.
Now Hale wants to reclaim the land he was raised on and get the girl he left behind back. He never stopped loving her, and wants her back, but he also wants his land back as well. So he decides he's going to do everything he can to prove to her she can trust him, and maybe learn to care for him as well.
Dani doesn't know if she should trust Hale or not. She was married to his brother before his death, and things didn't turn out so great. She loved who he was at one time but over the years things went bad. Now she's not sure she should let herself go again for another main of the same blood, raised by the same people.
This book was somewhat short, but it brought together a wonderful plot with romance, awesome kids, and some deeper meanings to things with it. I really enjoyed reading this book, and I highly recommend it.
Danielle Cooper's abusive, alcoholic husband is dead and she has two young boys to raise. The farm is a disaster and she has very little money and not enough food to feed the three of them. She contacts her deaf, brother-in-law Hale Cooper to ask for help. Hale was banished from the family after he was accused of starting a fire in the barn long ago. She has no idea he will come miles to her. All she wants is to get the farm fixed up to sell and leave her past behind. After discovering Danielle doesn't want the farm, Hale wants the claim to it. Now that his father and brother are gone, he wants it back. Because there is a large outstanding debt on the farm and so many repairs to be made, Danielle agrees to marry Hale so it will be turned over to him after the debt has been met. After finding out exactly what all transpired with his brother Mark and Danielle, he is very protective of her and the children. But Hale has secrets of his own that may keep Danielle and Hale apart from finding the love they really both have for each other. This was a very easy, romantic love story. I enjoyed it very much.
The author packs a lot into this short novel. At the outset of the story, Danielle has texted her deceased husband's brother to ask for help. She has inherited the broken-down family farm and can't manage it by herself. When Hale arrives, we get some backstory about the summer they spent together (the summer Hale fell in love with Danielle) and the big fire that resulted in Hale being rejected by his family and Danielle marrying his brother.
Then comes Hale's proposition, which Danielle has no choice but to accept. Given her history, she has a long way to go to trust Hale, and the unfolding story events show what kind of man Hale is (very different from her husband).
Guilt is an overarching theme in these characters' lives, and since I often write characters wrestling with feelings of guilt, this was compelling to me. I liked the exploration of family dynamics (not a light and sunny topic), and I liked the slow build-up of attraction and sensuality (I'm not a huge fan of instantaneous attraction).
There is a twist at the end that really made this story spark (which I won't give away here). And frankly, I was relieved that the author chose to make this a shorter novel rather than stretch out the guilt, lies and misunderstandings. It was the perfect length.
